Word of the Day: Schadenfreude

Lisa: Dad, do you know what schadenfreude is?
Homer: No, I do not know what shaden-frawde is. [sarcasm] Please tell me, because I'm dying to know!
Lisa: It's a German term for "shameful joy," taking pleasure in the suffering of others.
Homer: Oh, come on Lisa. I'm just glad to see him fall flat on his butt! [getting mad] He's usually all happy and comfortable, and surrounded by loved ones, and it makes me feel ... what's the opposite of that shameful joy thing of yours?
Lisa: [nastily] Sour grapes.
Homer: Boy, those Germans have a word for everything!

Michigan fans hit the schadenfreude trifecta this week with losses by Michigan State, Ohio State, and, of course, Notre Dame. Rarely do our three biggest rivals all lose on the same day.

Looking forward to reading this blog!

Was a classic against the Domers. Maize and Blue has to be enjoying life for the first time since what ... the Capital One Bowl against the Tebows that sent Carr out a winner? The last second win over Penn State in 2005?

I'm no fan of the Shamecocks, though they do employ me, I'd like to think that those GA state troopers would get at least a tongue-lashing for that same unprofessionalism you recently, and rightly, decried in MLB chUmps (on that note, did you see them hand last night's game to the Cubs with an arbitrary use of an arcane rule?) but having lived and worked in Georgia, I doubt it ...

Lex, I actually agree. I think the beauty of this picture is that there's enough schadenfreude for everyone to get a taste. Didn't see the umps last night, will have to check the high/lowlights.
