Red Sox Death Star Destroyed By Halos

Did I just see what I thought I saw??? How do you process the utterly implausible? The Angels winning a playoff series against the Red Sox is an upset by any metric. But, to complete a sweep of their arch-nemesis, on their home field, after being down by 3 runs with 4 outs to go, with 3 batters facing 5 separate 2-strike pitches, and against a closer who prior to today's game had given up 0 runs in 26 postseason innings ... absolutely stunning. Suffice to say, this was not just another Halo victory. This was the baseball equivalent of the Lakers beating the Celtics in '85, a purging of demons and curses and ghosts. Donnie Moore, may you finally rest in peace.

Argh! Adios Lounge shines with enlightened musical commentary. But then you have to go and be a Tide fan and not like the Red Sox (and apparently my beloved Celtics, too)! Incredibly hard loss for Sox fans to take, but it was a truly great win by the Halos. Definitely the better team this year.

Heh heh. Thanks man. If it makes you feel better, I don't dislike the Celtics because I don't follow the NBA anymore. For me, the NBA peaked in the '80s, so it's been a slow, painful descent since then into unwatchability. In fact, by the mid-'90s I was lamenting the end of the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, so much so that Bird is now one of my favorite players. He and Magic brought out the best in each other and their respective teams and their selflessness and team-first mentality symbolized the greatest era of the NBA.

Yeah, it's not the same game. Meaning, it's worse. Hell is being a Celtics fanatic and having to sit through isolation plays for Antoine Walker, year after year after year.

Can't believe the Angels wasted Saunders superb outing. They should have won that game -- and way before extra innings.
